IRMT: URUSVATI FOLK ART MUSEUM Was set up in the former house built by Colonel Rennick in 1895 on the top of the mountain at his Hall Estate. During the Roerich's times, this was the first building of the Urusvati research Institute, where all offices, Library hall, and few living quarters for the co-workers of the Institute were situated. Later on, the Biochemical Laboratory was constructed just near this building, and all scientific work was conducted in the new building. After the reconstruction of this building, Himalayan Folk Art Museum has been set up here with the help of Ministry of Culture and inaugurated on 28th October 1996. Nowadays, the Folk Art Museum contains a number of original, ancient sculptures collected by the Roerichs, as well as contemporary exhibits of traditional costumes, cultural and ethnographical objects from the Kullu valley and other mountain regions. It also exhibits reproductions of Nicholas Roerich paintings; paintings of Indian and Russian artists from their painting workshops; small ‘Russian room’ containing some dresses and ethnographical objects from Russia. Currently, the IRMT pursues a project 'Heavenly Himachal' which will further enrich the existing collection of the Museum. PHOTOGALLERY:
